Is fast food all that bad?

Fast food is taken to mean the food being served by a large segment of the fast food chains around the world, such as McDonalds or Kentucky Fried Chicken. This is a food that is widely popular with a large segment of society, and as such, it would be interesting to take note of their health effects, and especially (in a weight loss context), are they responsible in part for the increasing obesity problems in countries where fast food is the norm?

A quick look at fast food reveals that they are usually on the high end scale in terms of calories and fat! A simple Big Mac seems to have 540 calories per serving; which means a single serving has about 25-40% of an average calorie intake for the day! Calories aside, fast food typically has got a lot of fat, oil, and salt. The trans fat issue used to be a major issue among the health conscious folks, but most fast food chains have already begun amending their menus of late, and some, like White Castle, are actually quite alright now to eat, in this context. Assuming you’re a typical city slicker who can’t be bothered about fat, cholesterol, high salt content, additives and high calories, it will still be prudent to at least cut back on your fast food intake, because not all foods that taste good are good for your health!
